The main festivities at Pirrama Park for the Pyrmont Festival may have come to an end, but the Degustation program keeps the celebrations going with a number of iocal venues collaborating with winemaker labels.
It was a nice shift in gears as poultry masters, Whirlybird, team up with Tamburlaine to create a sampling menu emphasising the winemaker’s contemporary organic principles. The New York wine bar interior of Whirly provides the perfect backdrop for an evening with our host Ayla Wilton who gives great insight into the blends and fermentation process of each wineshowcased.
One of the greatest “misconceptions of organic wines is that they are sub par” says Ayla, when the fermentation process is the same. Grapes have been grown and harvested organically using no pesticides or chemicals. In Tamburlaine’s case they are also vegan friendly using non-animal based fining agents.
The main characteristic of Raw Vine Estate organic wines is that they have been made from grapes that have been grown and harvested organically The vineyards from where Raw Vine Estate grapes are produced are certified organic. This means that no pesticides or chemicals are used in the growing, cultivation and harvesting of the vines from which the grapes are grown. The wines have minimal intervention from the vine to the bottle.
As a mainstream awareness on clean eating and eco-sustainability continues to gain momentum, Tamburlaine Wines leads the charge in an area so many traditional winemakers are forced not to ignore. The wine is more favorable as the grapes haven’t been interfered with synthetic fertilizers, and there are scientific bodies testing and proving links between hangovers and winepreservatives.
Apertivo Hour runs now until the 24 September from Sunday to Thursday 5-7pm.
