Last year’s inaugural event went down a treat with only the coolest of urbanites breaking the mould to get behind this newbie event.
A hit with many providing, NYE in the Park was a welcome diversion from the inevitable gridlock of the 1.6 million crowd swarm that hit the city. The picteresque greenery of Camperdown’s Victoria Park will frame the 2 stage areas pop up bars and food stalls to create a relaxed haven to reflect and send off 2018 to the music of the land’s finest creative performers.Helping say adios’ to 2018 will be Australian dance royalty The Presets, who on the back of their massive new album will be bringing their self-described ‘pub rock techno’ to the park’s ornate surrounds. Also joining the party will be indie-rock legends The Jungle Giants, the crisp, clean sounds of Hayden James and festival hit Hot Dub Time Machine.
Can’t wait until the big day? Add these tracks to your spotify and I-Tunes playlists and get ready for the best new year’s ever! Just a taste of what to expect as you explore the massive grazing area and entertainment spaces.
‘I Love Songs’ is the latest album that marks Thundamentals’ 10 year anniversary and excudes soft chilled vibes of tropical beats and synth-soul. “Catch me if you Can” and “World’s Gone Mad” are standouts showcasing the substance of their style.
The Presets have had somewhat of a hiatus for 6 years or so, their latest EP “Hi-Viz” is an abstract electronic story of legato and metronome. Not sure what we mean? Add “Are you here” to your song list and it will all fall into place!
There’s no way to argue with the way Mushroom Records’ description of Luke Million’s obsession in bringing us contagious, hip-gyrating electronic funk in inventive ways. Case in point, sampling Schwarzenegger in his single “Arnold” and “Fear the Night”
Breaking his ‘one single per year’ life motto, Hayden James’ collaboration with Running Touch is an addictive design of drum with smooth basslines and beckoning voice. It’s definitely a favorite if not – THE – favorite of the selection here. If you’re going to play one song from this list today, make it “Better Together”.
