Erina Fair: Recapturing the spirit of Christmas

Erina Fair’s long history with Community Connect since 1987 has seen substantial contributions to hundreds of local not for profit and local area organisations over the years.  In keeping with that theme, came the creation of “The Giving Room”, a community project that gave local residents a chance to stop and reflect.

Over eight days, shoppers were invited to recount their favorite Christmas stories and record a personal message to their loved ones.   From mother to daughter, husband to wife, grandson to grandma and friend to friend – the stories were personal and different, but couched in one universal theme.

“At Erina Fair we value our local community” said Stephen Ross, Centre Manager. “We want to spread the Christmas spirit by providing an opportunity to give a gift of affirmation, appreciation, gratitude and love.”

A montage of touching moments were compiled, capturing a deep affection within the relationships presented.   The final montage released earlier this week captures raw emotion that reaches into your soul.   As those messages and stories told by participants were shown to the loved ones viewers were let into the worlds of many who make up the social fabric of Erina and its surrounding areas.

Captured on film “The Giving Room” reminded viewers how simple words and gestures of validation can transcend any material gift.  “These are the greatest gifts we can ever give, but often the most difficult.” continues Ross.

The short video presentation above ignites a sometimes forgotten passion for Christmas and community due to distractions from extended working hours and the monotony of routine.   It resonates with us all as we look back on our achievements from the year that has passed and look forward to the promise of a new year.
