More than 150 performers descend upon Bondi as The Pavilion and its surrounds explodes into a vibrant showcase of theatrics, cabaret, music, comedy, circus acts and interactive experiences.   Over 40 shows and events constitute the rich tapestry of entertainment for all to enjoy featuring talent from across Australia with a debut performance from a New Zealand act. 

An extended festival garden will feature new and expanded performance spaces, free roving performances, food trucks and warming beverages.   Beyond the walls of the Pavilion festivalgoers can explore Bondi with Guru Dudu’s Silent Disco Walking Tour or take in How to be Happy a theatre show/stadium pop concert on the back of a truck. 

Laser Kiwi - Bondi Feast
Laser Kiwi: It’s the first international act from New Zealand ever to be included in the Bondi Feast lineup which celebrates its seventh year.  Imogen Stone, Zane Jarvie and Degge Jarvie from Colossal circus company perform skits, acrobatics, demystify or confirm (depending on yoru perspective) Kiwi stereotypes and laughs

“Every year the festival grows in quality and variety and with 2019 we’ve been lucky enough to assemble an inventive mix of off-the-wall comedy, scintillating cabaret, intimate circus works, experimental theatre and even our very own Eurowision Song Contest.” describes festival co-director, Phil Spencer.  

Caught Out - Bondi Feast
Caught Out: A satire starring David Woodland, Jordan Steer and Xavier Coy who are trapped in the locker room while on the losing side of their international cricket tour.

“We’ll be transforming the Pav into a carnival playground, with unique installations, food and wine and of course our feast of entertainment. With free parking from 7pm and great public transport options, you won’t want to leave; it will be the ultimate winter hangout,” adds festival co-director, Rachel Chant.

Impromptunes - Bondi Feast
The Impromptunes: The troupe of VCA, Ballarat Arts Academy, WAAPA, members of Impro Melbourne, The Improv Conspiracy, Spontaneous Broadway and The Big HOO-HAA present a made up on the spot musical based on what you in the audience suggests! Every show is different as you watch true creativity unfold before your eyes.

Bondi Feast is a highlight of Waverley Council’s Bondi Winter Magic festival.  “Bondi Feast celebrates the diversity of talent we have in this country and is a highlight of Waverley’s cultural calendar,” said Mayor John Wakefield said. 

RULEBREAKER - Bondi Feast
Rulebreaker: Magician and wordsmith Adam Axford leads this fully interactive journey through social media, sustainability, mental health, and global travel. Since its inception, the festival directors of Bondi Feast have uncovered many original works and local acts.  It’s brought together the community at the time of year most will retreat into hibernation awaiting the return of summer.

Chasing Smoke: Take a glimpse into the world’s oldest living culture, told through the artform of contemporary circus. A dynamic, fast-moving and touching performance, Chasing Smoke stokes the fires of identity, challenge and success for a unique cohort of young Australians.

 

24 Hour Party Playwright - Bondi Feast 1
24 Hour Party Playwright: is a series of productions written by six writers, six directors the day before you go to watch it closing the season.
