“Better Than Ever” is the first cut of the year from Flight Facilities, following their 2018 singles “Need You” (certified Gold by ARIA) and “All Your Love”.
Their gold certified, twice ARIA-nominated debut LP Down To Earth hosted an impressive list of guest artists including Kylie Minogue, Emma Louise, Reggie Watts, Owl Eyes, Bishop Nehru, Micky Green and Giselle. Their subsequent Live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra album, recorded in front of a sold out 12,000-person crowd, saw the duo win their first ARIA award. When it comes to touring, the pair have attained plenty of frequent flyer miles, performing to a global audience multiple times over with their much-loved catalogue. Alongside their own headline shows, the duo have played headline slots at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals like Coachella in LA, Fuji Rock in Japan and Bestival in the UK.
Deviating from the usual, while staying true to their feel-good form, “Better than Ever” is a dazzling soul flavored melody. It’s a reflection of past relationships that even thought aren’t working out the way they were planned, “The more I give the more they’re taking. I’m a simple man I’m hard please”. Its a celebration of the other side of disappointment appreciating the mark such experiences imprint on you leaving you alone but “Better than Ever” with the opportunity of reinvention and aspiration.
The video clip is quirky to say the least but it’s a great addition to the summer playlist with its bopping hook, choral riffs from Aloe Blacc who we now from tracks with Avicii, thumping snares and an upbeat rhythm. This hybrid melding works well in their love-struck storytelling with the sound of effortless pop finesse.
