Gede Agus Kurniawan, one of Aryaduta Bali’s top chefs, won three prestigious fruit carving competitions held by the Indonesian Chef Association, Tourism Olympic Contest and Jimbaran Beach Festival “Food Culinary Competition” which took places over the last few weeks.
He’s aiming for a fourth title at the upcoming International Snow sculpture Competition next month.
Kurniawan outplayed more than 80 participants using papayas, watermelons, carrots, cucumber, spring onion, lettuce, and honeydew, which he turned into a marvellous ocean life masterpiece with colourful coral and a Balinese figure statue.
The carvings were evaluated by experienced judges comprising of Head Chefs from the Bali region. Each sculpture was judged on design, composition, technical skills, difficulty, creativity and originality.
“My biggest challenge was the timing, but I have made my strategy for the upcoming competition. I love carving, and I want to prove to the company that they can be proud of having me as part of their team,” said Chef Kurniawan. “My father, I Wayan Widana, which is also my role model, has helped me to pursue my dreams,”
