Son Jung Wan: NYFW FW20 – Retro Disney fusion

Unlike previous seasons, there were remnants of the retro Disneyland we saw last season from Son Jung Wan, but while her style retained the same flare, her use of solids were more apparent.  The futuristicness of her look will have a spot in all of our wardrobes.

Puffed out waistlines and asymmetrical draping are used not to create illusion but rather to celebrate natural features.  Individual looks heightened with bold colour choices of burgundy.

Her defining glamour looks this season shimmer, cohesively tying together all ideas of shapeshifting through the fall and winter like a chameleon – green leaf tones, Autumn leave hues and colour of a mediterranean ocean.

While bold solids of emerald, pear, turkish blue and burgundy are eye popping, it’s a more toned down approach from the previous season.  Instead the signature adventurousness we’re accustomed to is found in the use of mixed texture patchwork and geometrical slicing of silhouettes.

Technical and sharp, the waterproofing of garments isn’t as easy to construct as one might think, and the fabric choice adds a look of suspension to the silhouette.

When it comes to mens looks, the same rules apply as Son Jung Wan stays on trend with the rest of the industry in the continual breaking of convention allowing men to wander into new colour spectrums and experiment.

Remaining to a vision that harnesses the “dual nature of women”, this season’s look is crisp and modern, delving into the futuristic without falling into costumery.
