Feeling hungry for a feast but need a break from the typical meat based dishes of Chinatown? Same. It just so happens to be the only vegan option in the Dixon House food court and first one that comes to mine when weighing up options of the major eateries – Market City, Sussex Centre and Hay Street.
Wasn’t sure what to expect but was fascinated with the concept of their meat substitute duck and pork rib options and wanted to see what they could do with mushrooms. The best thing about vegan meals speaking from experience is the satisfying fullness achieved without the heaviness. You’ll only understand this feeling if you give up meat for an extended period.
The dishes use soy, curd, tofu products cooked in different ways to achieve soft and crispy textures. The “pork rib” was a little salty, however not due to cooking technique but the black bean flavoured sauce didn’t work for me here. The mushroom and the crispy duck are definitely the way to go.
