It was an impulse buy. A complete random act of fatness with no expectations. It was the first time and I’m told is a very common and popular Korean snack that has eluded me for years.
Even when reading the menu, things weren’t just registering and for some reason, despite the clear descriptions and imagery in the menu above my brain refused to process anything but a hot dog, shrugging it off as a quick feed to pass the time.
What sausage would you like the attendant asks. Oooo there’s cheese or there’s sausage. Simple enough. There’s cheese coated sausage centres.
So why not go half and half? Made sense at the time and pure instinct was right on the money with this experiment.
What coating would I like the attendant asks. Oooo you can have the hot dog coated with hot chips? Fine, yes, let’s do it!
For $5.90 the combo add on of a soft drink proved to be value for just $1.50.
Unfortunately, just before I arrived I was interrupting the studious work that was taking place to the left of the register.
So it would have been rude not to order a portion of dumplings to have with this hybrid cheese-melt-pluto-pup-hot-chip situation… Fresh from the fryer there’s a choice of four sauces and it has to be spicy chilli!
$7 for four which is almost the same price of the combo deal of the half dog.
That filling though is great, savouring each bit until THIS (scroll down) arrives in all its glory and splendour!
Taking a bite, pulling the skewer away clings a sensational cheese stretch. As the steam from the saucy centre disperses a hot front of aromatic cheese into the air it sinks to the bottom. The bready outer casing has intermittent chunks of potato chips through it – a match made in heaven with that sauce.
Working your way down the shaft, you reach the frankfurt which leads to the climax with its heavily chipped girth.
It’s that first bite that as you cross the border from cheese town to sausageville that is the best and will depend on where the chips fall on your batter as to how could that moment will be for you.
