5 Ways to live an organic life

Home » 5 Ways to live an organic life

An organic lifestyle involves doing away with synthetic chemicals. This can have health benefits: by cutting out chemicals, you may be able to prevent many potentially carcinogenic and toxic substances from entering your body. An organic lifestyle can also have environmental benefits: many man-made chemicals cause pollution (such as cleaning chemicals) or harm biodiversity (such as pesticides) – by cutting them out, you can help make a difference.

There are several ways in which you can start living an organic lifestyle. Below are just a few ways to start living more organic.

Food

The most common way to go organic is to start eating organic food. This includes eating fruit and vegetables that haven’t been grown using pesticides or artificial fertilizers. It also involves cutting out meats and processed foods that may use preservatives, colorants or artificial flavoring. You can adopt an organic diet by shopping at organic food stores, eating at organic restaurants or by even growing some of your own produce (by growing your own fruit and veggies, you can make sure that no chemicals are used)..

Clothing

Another way to start living a more organic lifestyle could be to start wearing more organic clothing. This is clothing that uses natural materials such as cotton, linen, wool and bamboo, with no synthetic chemicals used within farming or manufacture. There are brands that specialize in sustainable organic clothing. Choose to shop with these brands or look out for ‘100% organic’ on clothing labels.

Toiletries

Many bathroom products contain synthetic chemicals such as detergents and hardeners. You could start living a more organic lifestyle by avoiding these types of products. Instead, look out for products like organic hand wash soap or organic shampoos. Your local store may stock these products, or you can search for organic toiletries brands online. You could even try making some of your own toiletries – the likes or organic shampoo and organic body wash are easier to make than most people realise.

Cosmetics

Many types of makeup and hair products can also contain synthetic chemicals such as propylene glycol and petroleum jelly – some of which could be harmful to your skin and body. To reduce exposure to these chemicals, you could consider making a switch to organic cosmetics. There are many brands that specialise in makeup made from organic ingredients that could be worth trying.

Cleaning products

A lot of the common products that we use to clean our home such as floor cleaner, washing up liquid and window cleaner are also full of synthetic chemicals – some of which can contribute to air and water pollution. Fortunately, there are now many organic cleaning products on the market that you can use such as organic washing up liquid and organic surface cleaners. You can even make your own organic cleaning products using natural household ingredients like vinegar and lemon juice.
