New Cast, Same Story: The Crown – Season 3 (Netflix Premiere Sun 17 November)

The third season of The Crown sees a new guard sweep into Downing Street, as Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) and her family struggle to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing Britain.   From cold-war paranoia, through to the jet-set and the space age – the exuberance of the 1960s and the long hangover of the 1970s – Elizabeth and the Royals must adapt to a new, more liberated, but also more turbulent world.

Written by Peter Morgan, The Crown also stars Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Tobias Menzies as The Duke of Edinburgh, Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Ben Daniels as Lord Snowdon, Jason Watkins as Prime Minister Harold Wilson and Charles Dance as Lord Mountbatten.

When art imitates life: James Owen – Undefeatable

Charismatic country boy Jason Owen reminds us why he placed second in the 2012 season of X-Factor with his new release and powerful motivational song, Undefeatable, which will inspire you to dream big, do the impossible and achieve your goals.

Undefeatable, featuring Mildura-born Aboriginal hip-hop artist Philly, marks Jason’s unrelenting determination and drive to overcoming the mental-health struggles he has publicly documented in recent months.   In 2005, Jason and his father were in a horrific motorcycle accident, and the fear of losing someone close, coupled with the harsh reality of instant fame, criticism and rejection, has continued to plague Jason throughout his entire singing career.

“The trauma from the accident has affected me mentally in a big way and as I’ve grown older, my fear and anxiety has only gotten worse, especially when I moved away from family and friends to purse my dreams of being a singer,” said Jason.  “When I started working professionally in the music industry, I also copped a lot of hate and criticism. And with constant attention on my skin and body image, I wasn’t in a good place.   I am now starting to pull through and move into a more positive headspace and that’s what Undefeatable is all about. It’s about pushing through the hard times and never backing down to achieving what it is that you want out of life and I hope it resonates with others,” added Jason.

Flight Facilities: Better than Ever

New Release: 18 October 2010
Music Review: Sydney Scoop
Editor: Rebecca Varidel

“Better Than Ever” is the first cut of the year from Flight Facilities, following their 2018 singles “Need You” (certified Gold by ARIA) and “All Your Love”.

Their gold certified, twice ARIA-nominated debut LP  Down To Earth hosted an impressive list of guest artists including Kylie MinogueEmma LouiseReggie WattsOwl EyesBishop NehruMicky Green and Giselle. Their subsequent Live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra album, recorded in front of a sold out 12,000-person crowd, saw the duo win their first ARIA award.  When it comes to touring, the pair have attained plenty of frequent flyer miles, performing to a global audience multiple times over with their much-loved catalogue. Alongside their own headline shows, the duo have played headline slots at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals like Coachella in LA, Fuji Rock in Japan and Bestival in the UK.

Deviating from the usual, while staying true to their feel-good form,  “Better than Ever” is a dazzling soul flavored melody.  It’s a reflection of past relationships that even thought aren’t working out the way they were planned, “The more I give the more they’re taking.   I’m a simple man I’m hard please”.  Its a celebration of the other side of disappointment appreciating the mark such experiences imprint on you leaving you alone but “Better than Ever” with the opportunity of reinvention and aspiration.

The video clip  is quirky to say the least but it’s a great addition to the summer playlist with its bopping hook, choral riffs from Aloe Blacc who we now from tracks with Avicii, thumping snares and an upbeat rhythm.   This hybrid melding works well in their love-struck storytelling with the sound of effortless pop finesse.
