Bathory Begins – a bloody funny production for teens

Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP), the national youth theatre company and The Joan’s Q Theatre, Penrith present the world premiere of BATHORY BEGINS by award-winning playwrights Emme Hoy and Gretel Vella. Directed by Rowan Bate, the show will run from 11-21 September at The Joan, Penrith.

It’s the latest experimental live show in New Theatre Newtown’s 2019 program.  The 17 day short run production shines a spotlight on an an area of relationships clouded by languid debates of equality and homophobia in recent decades.

This Bitter Earth is my way of parsing this current cultural moment we’re living through.” says playwright, Chris Edwards,  “We see a generation of people struggling to connect with each other as there’s this looming, ever-present sense of twenty-first century despair hovering over our heads at all times.”

The tallest puppet in Australia at Barangaroo this weekend for Vivid Sydney!

When Vivid Sydney kicks off this weekend, the six metre tall puppet installation, ‘Marri Dyin” (‘Great Woman’ in Sydney local language) returns taking centre stage at the Barangaroo waterfront precinct which will be transformed into a magical busland setting entitled, ‘Winter Camp’.

The artistic collaboration brings together the talents of Erth Visual & Physical Inc., Jacob Nash, Mandylights and James Brown. Combining world-class puppetry, mechanics, sound and light, the artwork and performance will be a spectacular showcase of Australian artistic innovation and creativity.

Originate: AUDITION CALL OUT – Q Theatre, Penrith

Q Theatre has been making theatre for more than 50 years. Based at The Joan, Penrith, we offer pathways for early career and established artists to train, grow and develop. We seek to create theatre that sits just beyond what we think is currently possible. In 2019 you can catch a bunch of new work, fresh and hot, straight out of Q Theatre.

Whether you’re an actor, writer, musician, digital artist or spoken word poet, Q Theatre’s Studio Q is on the hunt for people with a hunger for making live art.  Auditions for 12 young artists, aged 18 – 26, to take part in the 2019 ‘Originate’ performance project will be held in early May with the project kicking off later that same month.
