One of the advantages of being a season behind the rest of the world is our ability to set up our key looks for the season into the next. A retrospect, the ideas in these collections from last year set the tone today.
3 essential trends:
Dress how you feel: D&G’s collection was a time capsule of sorts that spoke to fans of the label past, present and future. This would summarise in a general sense the themes for the season across all runwants. From the edgy patterns to the conservative and flamboyant colours to the runway show itself – it set the tone of contrasts that have become signatures of the house through the season. The execution on the runway embodying that evolution and contrast opening with millenial social influencers and closing with classic supermodel Naomi Campbell. There is no one trend to follow, but rather a code that has blossomed from season to season that became staples across the generations.
Stand out and own it: The idea of gender neutral garments and unconventional interpretations of masculinity continue to emerge. Gentle infusions with fabrics typically used in female clothing, flamboyant fluros, pastel accents and formalwear ripped apart and paired with denim and runners.
Dress age appropriately: Recontextualised tailoring with fleeting hints of streetwear and activewear works up to a point. Old school rules do still apply on a case by case basis.
