JAGGED LITTLE PILL THE MUSICAL
Do i stress you out? My sweater’s on backwards and inside out and you say H-OO-OOOW appropriate…. What a roller coaster ride this past year has been, dancefloors banned, returning briefly and now at the time of print, gone again. Many of the reports on last year’s theatre and movie premiere openings have now become obsolete and we now take this time to let ourselves look forward to some of the productions that bravely announce their opening night.

No word yet on the Australian class which was previously auditioning at the time of writing, the show takes us into the world of Mary Jane and the Christmas letter she writes while recovering from an accident…. Rehearsals commence in July incorporating album hits from the 1990s 10x Platinum hit album selling over 33 million copies back in the days when people use to go into stores to buy their music. Judging from this teaser below from the Broadway cast during lockdown, tracks continue to stand the test of time!
SIX THE MUSICAL
The story of the ultimate player and womaniser gets flipped on its head as the ex-wives of King Henry VIII are assembled in a pop concert style girl band bringing a tale of comedy in a somewhat dark time in girl power.

An all star Queen-spectable sees the legacies of Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Catherine Parr try to outwit each other battling out the melodies in a quest to outdo one another on who had the worst death and experience with the big man himself.
Returning to the cast as the rule-breaking second wife Anne Boleyn is Kala Gare having graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts and starred in productions including Bright Star and Rent at Melbourne’s Chapel off Chapel. Loren Hunter resumes her role as the loyal third wife Jane Seymour adding to her unfaltering musical theatre career including roles in Strictly Ballroom the Musical and King Kong the Musical. The independent Anna of Cleves will be once again played by VCA graduate Kiana Daniele who made her professional debut in The Production Company’s Boy from Oz and played Baby in Dirty Dancing presented by Immersive Cinema. Musical maven Vidya Makan reprises her role as the empowering Catherine Parr, a graduate of Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Vidya’s previous roles include the Australian tour of Green Day’s American Idiot and Australian Shakespeare Company’s Romeo and Juliet.
Joining the SIX Australian Queens as they embark on this new tour will also be the extremely talented swings made up of returning cast members Karis Oka and Shannen Alyce Quan and brand new swing and Dance Captain Chiara Assetta.
While some might see it as distasteful, medieval theatre was often used to satirically recount the news of the day and in some sense in those modern times, works!
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

Opera Australia returns to a classic with The Phantom of the Opera set to debut at the Sydney Opera House for the first time in the show’s history.
“The chemistry between Josh and Amy as the Phantom and Christine, is electric, and together with Blake as the aristocratic Raoul, they lead an extraordinary cast.” said Artistic Director, Lyndon Terracini, “They’re all wonderful performers whom I know fans are going to absolutely love, trust me, it will be worth the wait”.
The reason why we need THE COLOR PURPLE on our stages, but who in Australia has the chops to match this (fast forward to 2min 53 seconds)?
